Tony Hipperson – General Manager
Tony has full responsibility for the company's business performance, including business development.

With 30 years experience in a variety of operational and commercial roles in the quarrying, highway maintenance and construction industry, his focus is on consolidating and growing the business.

Tony studied business administration through the Open University and is an elected Fellow of the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management and a Council Member of the Road Emulsion Association Limited.

His emphasis is maintaining and enhancing the culture of ‘manufacturing excellence’ and providing unrivalled customer service to both May Gurney Group businesses and external clients.

Darren Alger - Senior Accountant
Darren joined the company in February 2008 and is responsible for the accounting and finance functions within the Ayton Products business.

He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance at Nottingham Trent University, is a CIMA passed finalist, and brings six years experience spent in a manufacturing environment.

Darren's emphasis is on providing full financial, accountancy and budgetary support as well as detailed management and cost information and analysis.

Stephen Collins – Technical & Production Manager – Bitumen Products
Stephen Collins joined Ayton Products as a Chemist in 1988 after previously working as a technician in the higher education, gas and nuclear power industries.

Stephen was promoted to Technical and Production Manager in 2006.

A first class honours graduate in Physical Sciences of the Open University, Stephen has also been awarded an MSc in Colloid Chemistry by the University of East Anglia and has conducted postgraduate research at the same institution into the synthesis and characterisation of cationic surfactants used in bituminous highways construction.

A Chartered Chemist – Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics - Stephen has sat on a number of technical committees within the highways construction industry, including BBA HiTAC (Highways Industries Technical Advisory Committee), Energy Institute ST-E (Bitumen Committee) and the Technical Committee of the Road Emulsion Association Limited.

Michelle Wones – Sales and Marketing Manager – SSP
Michelle, who has more than 10 years retail and management experience, has responsibility for the sales and marketing and business development functions within the SSP business.

She works closely with architects, specifiers, authorised contractors and external clients to deliver outstanding customer service, project management and contracting support.

Michelle is responsible for health and safety support on site and is a Member of the International Safety Coaches Association. She also delivers the May Gurney MAD (Making A Difference) health, safety and environment initiative across the business.

She is also a member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Robin Knevitt – Product Manager – SSP
Robin joined the business as a development technician in 1982 having graduated from the University Of East Anglia as a BSc in Chemical Sciences.

He has extensive manufacturing and technical experience in bituminous products – having previously worked as factory manager designing and installing a new polymer bitumen emulsion mill - and in resin based technology.

He was responsible for the development and sales of rubber safety surfacing and closely involved with the development and sales of the bulk of the SSP product range.

Robin transferred to his present role in 1999 and his brief is to develop the product range to meet an ever-increasing market. His responsibilities include technical innovation, research and development and technical and product support to external clients and authorised contractors.

Robin is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Jon Hood – Sales Manager – Bitumen Products
Jon joined the business in 1989 and has extensive manufacturing, roofing and construction industry experience.

His responsibilities include: business development and management of the bitumen sales and procurement office; day to day transport liaison; and the bitumen and roofing products sales teams based at Wymondham and Cambridge.

He is focussed on key account management, and with his team strives to offer friendly, efficient and approachable customer service.

Jon is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.
