Tripave® plays part in 2012 London Olympics scheme

1700 square metres of Ayton Products’ Tripave® surfacing has been laid at Stratford Station in east London in readiness for the 2012 London Olympics.

Stratford Station and the tracks that serve it are being modernised to improve accessibility and capacity. This is in readiness for the significant increase in passenger numbers with the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and new developments in the area. The benefits of the completed works will include:

• Nine new lifts that will make the station fully accessible for all passengers
• Two new station entrances that will greatly improve passenger flow
• New stairs that will improve access and reduce congestion
• Improved transport links and new subways that will make interchanges easier
• Stratford station and the Stratford City Development will be fully integrated via a new footbridge

These essential works, which are being funded by the Olympic Delivery Authority, include for the resurfacing of the station platforms and hard standing areas and the Tripave® was installed by Gaysha Specialist Surfacing Limited, Ayton Products’ licensed contractor, on behalf of Network Rail.

Tripave® is a highly durable, rapid cure and waterproof surfacing system based on technically advanced methyl methacrylate (MMA) resin technology. It was selected by the client in a grey colour for the widened, lengthened and decluttered platforms which will boost capacity, reduce congestion and allow longer trains to service the station.

Ian Elsey, managing director of Gaysha Specialist Surfacing Limited, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this scheme and to provide a surfacing system which is robust and aesthetically pleasing. During the Olympic Games around 120,000 passengers are expected to use the station during morning peak periods and the surfacing has to be durable to cope with this.”

The second phase of work, comprising a further 700 square metres of Tripave® surfacing, commences in early 2010 and the station is expected to be finished by the end of 2010, meaning passengers can experience the benefits nearly two years before the Games.
