Colourchip® plays part in Oxford City Centre enhancement scheme

Nearly 1300 square metres of asphalt surfacing with Colourchip® resin coated chippings manufactured by Wymondham based Ayton Products, has been laid in Oxford city centre.

The surfacing formed part of a renovation project in New Inn Hall Street and was carried out by Caveney Road Surfacing Limited, of Redditch, on behalf of Enterprise and Oxfordshire Highways.

The scheme, which is used by a mixture goods vehicles, cars, cycles and pedestrians comprised replacing the old worn out surfacing with a mixture of new asphalt and Colourchip® resin coated chippings, enhanced by granite setts and York stone paving. A quartzite aggregate was specially selected for the Colourchip® coated chippings in order to give desired anti-skid properties as well as being aetheistically pleasing to the surrounding historical area.

Colourchip® coated chippings comprise specially selected and graded aggregates pre-coated with a hot, clear hydrocarbon-based resin. The clear resin is fully compatible with bitumen-based products, making them an ideal solution for cost effective colour enhancement of hot rolled asphalt surfacing. The clear binder allows Colourchip® coated chippings to fully bond to HRA while also allowing the natural colour of the aggregate to provide an immediate decorative finish, which is maintained throughout the life of the surfacing.

Lee Prudden of Caveney Road Surfacing Limited said 'we were pleased that Ayton Products was able to supply a chipping which met all of the client's design requirements as well as in a colour which is compatible with the surrounding infrastructure'.
