Specialist surfacing enhances Edmonton towpath

Wheelie bin

A surfacing scheme to enhance and improve a section of towpath adjacent to the canal in Edmonton, North London, was recently completed by Ayton Products’ specialist contractor, Gaysha Specialist Surfaces Ltd.

Gaysha, who are licensed by Ayton Products and May Gurney to supply its branded resin based products, laid 81m of the Stonebond® resin bonded system using a grey aggregate topping, and 780m 2 of the Clearmac® resin bound system using a buff coloured aggregate finish.

The northern section of the project required precast concrete blocks immediately adjacent to the canal to be surfaced in grey, and the newly constructed towpath to be surfaced in buff, in order to delineate this from the adjacent protective barrier and roadway. The southern section of the project required the existing concrete towpath to be surfaced with the buff system, to match.

The scheme is part of a national framework contract carried out by May Gurney in partnership with British Waterways. Richard Dewhurst, project manager, said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of this project which enables May Gurney to maintain and improve the national canal and river network for British Waterways, which is enjoyed by more than 35,000 people every day.
