Special needs met by Clearmac®

clearmac

Whilst conventionally employed to create beautiful, stunning as well as practical surfacings for pathways, precincts, driveways, parking and pedestrianised areas, there appears to be no end of uses for Clearmac®, manufactured by Wymondham based Ayton Products.

The material has now been used to create the perfect teaching space, at the John Grant School at Caister on Sea, in Norfolk, which specialises in teaching children with severe learning difficulties and special needs, with many also having mobility problems.

The client wanted to engender a tranquil area, containing the effect of water, within a beautiful ‘sensory garden’ and Clearmac® Cold Applied proved to be the perfect material for the bespoke job.

To realise the concept, 130 square metres of Clearmac® were laid by recently appointed Ayton approved contractor – Gaysha Specialist Surfacing. Blue lines, created by using a special aggregate within in the Clearmac®, were set around the circumference of the planted areas and a totem pole was positioned in the centre of one section.

The final appearance of the purpose-designed project produced the required result.

Clearmac’s® clear resin allows the natural colour of the selected aggregate to permeate through, producing beautiful, fully bound, paved areas. The resin and encapsulated aggregate creates a highly durable, low maintenance surface with no loose stone. It is applied by hand and designed to provide high performance on surfaces subject to point loading. The cured finish gives a textured finish able to resist degradation caused by weathering and UV radiation, oil, fuel and some commonly used solvents. Clearmac® Cold Applied Paving is based upon BS4987, the British Standard specification for coated macadams, with the bitumen replaced with a clear binder.
